เรื่องย่อ ในปีพ.ศ.2129 พระเจ้านันทบุเรงทรงแค้นเคืองที่ต้องปราชัยต่อสมเด็จพระนเรศฯอย่างย่อยยับ ทั้งต้องเสียไพร่พลและพระสิริโฉม จึงระบายความแค้นนั้นไปที่องค์พระสุพรรณกัลยา เมื่อสมเด็จพระมหาธรรมราชาพระราชบิดาทราบความก็ให้โทมนัสด้วยสำนึกว่าชะตากรรมของพระราชธิดาและแผ่นดินอยุธยาที่ถูกกระทำการย่ำยีก็ด้วยเพราะพระองค์ทรงแปรพักตร์ไปเข้าข้างศัตรู จนตรอมพระทัยเสด็จสวรรคต สมเด็จพระนเรศฯจึงเสด็จขึ้นเสวยราชสมบัติครองกรุงศรีอยุธยาสืบต่อจากพระราชบิดา ข่าวการผลัดแผ่นดินของอยุธยารู้ไปถึงพระเจ้านันทบุเรง พระองค์สำคัญว่าราชอาณาจักรสยามจะไม่เป็นปกติสุขเป็นช่องชวนชิงเชิงจึงโปรดให้มังสามเกียดอุปราชเจ้าวังหน้ากรีฑาทัพไปตีกรุงศรีอยุธยาอีกคำรบ ข้างสมเด็จพระนเรศฯทรงโปรดให้พระราชมนูแต่งพลเป็นทัพหน้าขึ้นไปดูกำลังข้าศึกถึงหนองสาหร่าย ทัพหน้าพระราชมนูปะทะเข้ากับทัพพม่าถึงขั้นตะลุมบอน แต่กำลังข้างพระราชมนูน้อยกว่าจึงแตกพ่ายถอยลงมาเป็นอลหม่าน สมเด็จพระนเรศฯทราบความจึงออกอุบายให้ทัพข้าศึกไล่เตลิดลงมาจนเสียกระบวนแล้วจึงทรงนำกำลังออกยอทัพข้าศึก ครั้งนั้นช้างทรงของสมเด็จพระนเรศฯ นามเจ้าพระยาไชยานุภาพ และช้างทรงของสมเด็จพระเอกาทศรถคือเจ้าพระยาปราบไตรจักรต่างตกน้ำมัน วิ่งร่าเบกพลฝ่าเข้าไปในทัพพม่ารามัญกลางวงล้อมข้าศึกและหยุดอยู่หน้าช้างพระมหาอุปราชา สมเด็จพระนเรศฯ จึงประกาศท้าพระมหาอุปราชแห่งหงสาให้ออกกระทำยุทธหัตถีเป็นพระเกียรติยศแก่แผ่นดิน ด้วยขัตติยมานะพระมหาอุปราชาก็ไสพระคชาธารออกทำคชยุทธด้วยสมเด็จพระนเรศฯ ขณะที่มังจาปะโร พระพี่เลี้ยงองค์สมเด็จพระมหาอุปราชได้ออกทำยุทธหัตถีกับสมเด็จพระเอกาทศรถสัประยุทธ์กันเป็นสองคู่ สู่มหาศึกคชยุทธ์ที่มีแผ่นดินเป็นเดิมพัน

Synopsis In the year 2129, King Nanthabureng was angry at having to defeat King Naresuan. Until His Highness died King Naresuan therefore ascended to the throne of Ayutthaya, succeeding his father. The news of the land shift of Ayutthaya was known to King Nanthabureng.
